Saturday 27th September MEN'S OPEN SCRAMBLE

The conditions were perfect for good golf to be played and the 18 teams taking part certainly did not disappoint, with visiting teams taking the top three positions.
In first place was the Osborne four of Dave Street, Mark Stephens, Peter Cridland and Paul Cates. Their round consisted of 12 birdies and 6 pars to give them a nett score of 50.55.
This was one ahead of the Ryde team of Lee Dixon, Steve Gawn, Neil Robinson and Dave Hamilton. Another Ryde Team of Dave Wilkins, Will Merwood, Steve White and Peter Reynolds came 3rd with 53.6

Freshwater players could not even pick up the Nearest the Pin prize on the 14th, this being won by Rob Burrows of Shanklin & Sandown, with a fine shot finishing within 3 feet of the cup.

KNILL JONES FINAL

Very well played to Richard Leppard, who, despite being 3 down with 3 holes to play, held his nerve brilliantly to beat Kevin Garrett on the 19th Hole. In fact the one and only time he was ahead in the match was when they shook hands at the end.

HARDING CUP

The final of the Harding Cup proved to be a slightly one sided affair, with the pairing of Ann Smith & Stuart Morris playing superb golf to beat Jackie and Bill Evitts 4 & 3.

SEPTEMBER MEDAL

Cliff Sanders won this event on countback from Simon Smith, both on net 70. One behind in 3rd place was Gary Cooke

Sunday 31st August - FRESHWATER BAY GOLF CLUB MIXED OPEN

Considering the freshening breeze testing the players it was somewhat of a surprise not to see a Freshwater Bay pair having the best score  on Sunday at the FBGC Mixed Open.
Ian Ralph & Perdita Potter

However, the pair of Ian Ralph from Cowes and Perdita Potter from Osborne played excellent golf to score the day’s best round of  41 points.

John & Lucy Burke

The winners of the  Nerissa Groombridge Trophy for the  best home player score was the father and daughter combination of John & Lucy Burke, with 40 points. This was one point ahead of Fred and Anne Smith on 39 points.

At the presentation the Lady Captain, Joan Martin, thanked all the players, especially those from the other Island Clubs, for supporting the event and making the day such a success.
