15th January - Captain’s farewell at Freshwater Bay Golf Club

David Cooke’s year as captain of FBGC was celebrated at a very well attended farewell dinner held in the clubhouse on Sunday. Members were superbly entertained by Double Take, comprising of the singing duo of Lottie and Sarah Harris.
The golf competition saw nearest the pin prizes awarded to Ruth Stockley and Chris Edmonds-Smith, with the overall trophy being won by John Wisker.
The winter Fristab trophy was won by the captain himself with Hugh Morrison finishing as runner up.
The captain’s charity cheque of in excess of £2,600 was presented to the Needles Coastwatch Institute and was received by the station manager and his deputy.

8th January - Monthly Medal

Despite playing much of the course in the clouds, most players managed to complete their rounds on Sunday in the January Medal. Apart from the mist, the conditions were near perfect, with virtually no breeze, and the greens putting superbly.
Top of the field was James Sanders with a net 63, winning on countback from Russell Macgregor. Third place on 67 was Rick Penn.

Wednesday 12th October - Midweek Stableford

This spell of good weather is certainly being reflected in the scores being posted at the moment!
Winning division 1, on 40 points was Jack Ince, with Richard Frost 1 point behind, and Bill Evitts coming 3rd, also on 39 points.
In division 2, Gary Holmes kept up his good run of form to take 1st place on 39 points, Peter Bonnell was 2nd on 38, and John Wisker 3rd on 36 points.

Sunday 9th October - Bundy Trophy won in fine style

The final Bundy Trophy qualifier was played in fine conditions, and the scoring certainly matched the weather. Dot Porter & Jim Whitehead went into this last round, knowing that they had to perform well to overhaul Paula Burke and Steve Orchard at the top of the rankings, and boy did they do just that. A score of 47 points secured them 1st place, with Paula Burke and her "substitute" man, Chris Tansley coming 2nd on 43 points. In 3rd place, on 42 points was Ash Coke & Miles Oldershaw.

Saturday 8th October - Captain gets first hole in one!

A busy weekend up the Bay kicked off with the Open Scramble, with 18 teams of 4 taking part, in perfect golfing weather.
The winning team was Gary Holmes, Tony Keen, Les Mew & Malc Williams, coming in with a net score of 53.00.
Second place went to the Captain's team of Dave Cooke, Glen Carter, Andrew May-Miller & Nigel Spicer on 53.5. Of special note was Dave's hole in one on the 3rd hole, which meant he also won nearest the pin on that hole!!
The brothers Wright (Dave, Derek, Brian & Keith came in 3rd place on 53.85.

Sunday 10th April – CHEVERTON CUP



In very tough conditions, Keith Wright managed to beat the elements with a superb round of 68. This was 3 better than the next best rounds, which were played by Ash Brett and Gareth Bricknell, with Gareth taking 2nd place due to a better back 9.

Saturday 9th April – MEN’S OPEN SCRAMBLE


Taking first spot with a net 54 was the team of Tom Dye, Darren Williams, Mike Herbert and Chris Griffiths.
Pre-tournament favourites, Harry Dye, Gareth Bricknell, Ash Brett and John Godwin had to settle for 2nd place, on 56, whilst the visiting team of Spencer Simpson, Fraser Simpson, Xavier Bishop and Mike Compton took 3rd spot on 56.4.
Barry Crook took the Nearest the Pin prize with an excellent shot that finished no more than a couple of foot from the hole.

Thursday 7th April – LADIES EWGA MEDAL inc. THE MEDAL WINNERS TROPHY



The first ladies trophy of the year was won by last year’s winner and this year’s captain, Di Clark with an excellent net 70. This also saw her win the Bronze Division of the EWGA Medal. Winning the Silver Division was Sheila Francis, on 74. Jan Godden came 2nd Overall, also with a 74, with Joan Martin taking 3rd Overall on 76.
