The Ray
Cooke Memorial Trophy was
held on Sunday 12th October, and attracted one of the biggest entries
of the year, with 64 players taking part. There was definitely an autumnal feel
to the conditions, but this certainly did not blunt the enthusiasm of the
competitors as they started out on their quest for the trophy.
Dave Bell , who was
only playing due to a last minute withdrawal, was the early pace setter with a
very solid round of 40 points, and it looked for a very long time that he would
be the eventual winner. However, James Brett playing in the penultimate group managed to match Dave’s score, and due to his staggeringly
good back 9 score of 25 points picked up first place and the trophy. Taking
third spot with 38 points was Peter Bonnell.
The Ladies winning score was Liz
Morris with 35, with Jackie Evitts second on 34.
Nearest the pin was won by
Simon Smith, best front 9 was John Riddelsdell and best back 9 was Bill
Hinchen.
