Freshwater Bay Golf Club Men’s Championship 2014

In sunny but breezy conditions, Freshwater Bay Golf Club hosted its men’s championship this weekend
There was fine golf played on both days, with Ryan Harmer winning the Championship with a score of 144 (72, 72) to retain the trophy he won last year. After round 1, Keith Wright was in 2nd place on 74, but both George Faulkner (147) and Conor White ((148) passed him to take 2nd and 3rd place respectively. In fact their 2 Sunday rounds of 69 for George and 71 for Conor were the best 2 individual rounds of the weekend.

In the Afton Down (Handicap) Steve Sargeant was the pace setter after Saturday with a fine nett 65. There were 3 players 3 adrift, with perhaps the most impressive being Tom Dye, who was playing off a handicap of 20 instead of his actual handicap of 26.  Despite a double bogey, double bogey finish Steve’s overall score of 135 just saw him over the line, with Conor White one adrift on 136 and Josh Macgregeor taking 3rd on 137, from Justin Clayton on count back.

Champion Ryan Harmer & Captain Chris Edmonds-Smith
In the A T Smith Veteran’s competition Hugh Morrison and Chris West were joint leaders after the Saturday round with 68. Tony Black was one adrift on 69, and he followed that up with another 69 on the Sunday to win on count back from Hugh Morrison.

George Faulkner’s score of 147 saw him winning the Junior Championship from Alex Harmer in 2nd place.

The Sunday Tankard for the best Sunday score went to Steve Orchard, with a best of the weekend score of 63 from Josh Macgregor (64).
